Arequipa

This city is awe inspiring. It has a colonial feel, aptly named ‘The White City’ due to most of the buildings being made of Sillar (volcanic ash & rock). Walking along the cobblestone streets & trying to dodge the constant traffic, there are quite a few lovely cafes, restaurants & bars around. The area is renowned for its farming, mining & tourism. Interestingly the majority of people residing in Arequipa are not actually from the town itself. A visit to St Catalina monastery is a must. Lots of cathedrals & museums to check out. Went for dinner with the group, who are a genuinely wonderful group of people. Off to Colca Canyon tomorrow to spot some condors & hopefully dip in the hot springs. Fingers crossed I don’t get altitude sickness…
