Cusco is a lovely town. It really does strike me as the centre of Peru, despite Lima being the capital. It’s evident tourists flock here in droves before making the pilgrimage to Machu Picchu, hence the town’s popularity and buzz. Back in the ancient times, Cusco used to be considered the centre of Peru, represented as the hole in the Chakana (Andean cross). Good spot for shopping, some fantastic cafes (Jack’s cafe is a must-visit if you’re in town; I also hear that the club sandwiches in Cusco are supposed to be pretty great), and just a genuinely enjoyable place to hang out.
